I am not a “skater” by any stretch…when it comes my street with any sport involving a board (except for a short stint on a surf board while living in Cali), I have noooo comment. That is unless we are talking about fashion. Cuz, the fashion of, well, anything, is something I like to familiarize myself with, regardless of my involvement in the relevant culture. Which brings me to Vans… I attended the opening of the new store on 1021 Ste Catherine Street, in Montreal, and got to check out what all the cool kids and action-sport enthusiasts are, and will be, wearing.
The new space is not on the ground floor, but worth the walk up the stairs. Hard wood and edgy finishes make the retail space cool without looking like a cartoon and this store offers the best selection of Vans in the country. As guests of the exclusive opening event, we were invited to pick a pair of Vans. I chose adorable off-white strawberry covered kicks, that would look cute with jeans or a summer dress.
You could also customize a pair online- with choices like color, pattern and style, this was/is a very cool and modern way to personalize your feet.
There were accessories that caught my eye, like these ombre and animal print sunglasses.
If you wanna’ start ’em young: I saw these too-cool-for-school Vans for the mini-hipster that would do the trick.
Bringing me back to my (very short-lived) surfing days, was the Hawaiian-inspired gear.
And, if you are looking for a fancier shoe,
this leather laced footwear in muted tones had a nice touch of casual sophistication.
So, I may not look like a skater,
but there seems to be something for everyone (even little ‘ole me) at Vans…
