Another season done! Montreal fashion week has come and gone and it was a whirlwind for me. Not to mention that it was a parade of fashion. Now, let me wax on a little here: Montreal is a cool edgy city with tons of style and too often it is overlooked. Well, this season felt a bit different. A new venue, a new sponsor (the Target media lounge was A-okay) and good dose of energy was invigorating. Add in an impressive lineup of designers for the two days I attended and I was delighted to see Montreal live up to its potential.
So here are is are the first two shows I saw on day one:
Tavan & Mitto
I can summarize my experience in the sentiments described by my intern after the final walk: She loved it, all of it. Vibrant juicy colours, flouncy skirts, feminine texture and slinky metallics, this was a well crafted, created and curated collection start-to-finish.
PS: I loved it, too.
This show was a bit of a departure for me. Now, don’t get me wrong, it was still delightful and wearable (all coquettish femininity with a romantic nuance of 1920’s south of France flapper vibe), but I was not expecting this collection at all. My Melissa Nepton experience has thus far been a little less thematic and a little more futuristic. But send me to Hemingway Europe and I will roll with it, promise.
